Empty House Tour: Renovating a 1979 Split Level to Our Dream Farmhouse

Well, we did something crazy again…we bought a fixer upper! And we did it sight unseen!

Because just moving and about to have our second baby wasn’t enough right? Let’s throw in a renovation too. That’s basically our life motto at this point! Since Bryce and I got married I don’t think we’ve ever had one year where things were just calm and not much was going on (but honestly, I think we kind of like it that way)!

We just started demo-ing, but I wanted to share an empty house tour so we can look back and see the major before and after when we’re done!

The house is from 1979, and it is STRAIGHT out of the ‘70s. Original shag carpet and wall paneling and all. I don’t know why, but when we saw this house we just knew we had to put an offer on it. I told Bryce God definitely wants us here, because we both agreed if we had seen it in person before we bought it we probably would have walked out 😂 But seriously, we love this house so much and we know it’s going to be so beautiful when we’re done! It’s honestly such an answered prayer - a few acres out in the country where we can raise our kids and have room to garden, take care of our chickens, and just enjoy life.

Our first project was to rip out all the flooring (bye shag carpet), demo the wall separating the kitchen and living room, and tear out the existing cabinets so we can restructure the kitchen. Doing all that with a toddler and 20 weeks pregnant was an experience but we had so much fun doing it together! Next up is getting the new flooring in, having a water line moved for the new sink location, and installing our cabinets! I can’t wait to take you guys along with me!
