Towns Near Idaho Falls, Idaho

If you’ve been thinking about moving to Southeastern Idaho, you’ve probably seen a LOT of towns on this side of the state! If you aren’t familiar with the area (or even if you are and just want a refresher!), here’s a little overview of some of the towns around Idaho Falls (one of our main cities on this side of Idaho!).

List of Towns Around Idaho Falls

I’m going to start from the South and work our way up to make this easier to visualize! So, starting out, there’s:

  • Pocatello, Idaho

Pocatello is about 40-50 minutes from Idaho Falls, and is one of the main cities in Southeastern Idaho. It’s pretty comparable in size to Idaho Falls itself, but doesn’t have quite as many amenities as Idaho Falls does. (Pro tip: I know a lot of people that live in Pocatello say they drive to Idaho Falls for Target and Costco, so might want to keep that in mind!)

  • Blackfoot, Idaho

Blackfoot is about 30-40 minutes from Idaho Falls, give or take. The population is about 12,000 people, so it’s fairly small. Most of the residents there go to Pocatello or Idaho Falls to go shopping, go to dinner, or things like that. Fun fact though - Blackfoot is known as the potato capital of the world!

  • Firth/Shelley, Idaho

Firth and Shelley are typically kind of lumped together because of their proximity to each other, and they’re both very small - Firth’s population is only about 500, and Shelley’s is about 4,500. But they’re only about 10-15 miles South of Idaho Falls, so super close if you want to live a little bit further out but still be within an easy drive into town!

Another fun fact: Shelley throws something called the Idaho Annual Spud Day every year, which is in September. They have events there like a pancake breakfast, parade, spud picking contest, spud run, and more.

  • Ammon, Idaho

Ammon is basically a suburb of Idaho Falls (you literally cross S 25th E street from Idaho Falls and you’re in Ammon), and its population is about 15,000 people. Ammon is basically a newer area of Idaho Falls, and has a bunch of shops and restaurants (places like Hobby Lobby, Target, TJ Maxx, Cabela’s, CAL Ranch, and more).

  • Iona, Idaho

Iona is similar to Ammon (it borders Idaho Falls and Ammon), but its population is only about 1,800 people. There aren’t really any shops or restaurants in Iona, but you’re only about 10-15 minutes from all of those things in Idaho Falls, so it’s very convenient - and nice if you don’t want to live right in town but still want to be close to everything!

  • Ucon, Idaho

Ucon is just a few minutes outside of Idaho Falls. Like Iona, it’s small (Its population is just about 1,500), so it’s great for that small town feel while still being close to the amenities in Idaho Falls!

  • Rigby, Idaho

Rigby’s population is about 4,000, and again, is only about 10 minutes from Idaho Falls (just a few minutes up from Ucon). They have a super cute Main Street (with an amazing barbecue restaurant!). And fun fact, Rigby is also the birthplace of television!

  • Ririe, Idaho

Ririe is just slightly Northeast of Idaho Falls, and is on the way out to Jackson, WY. The population is only about 500 people, but it’s considered part of the Idaho Falls metro area. There’s some amazing fishing near Ririe (my husband goes out there all the time to go fly fishing)!

  • Menan, Idaho

Menan is another small town just Northwest of Idaho Falls. Its population is just under 1,000 people, and is primarily a farming community. It’s just about 30 minutes from Idaho Falls, and it has one of our favorite restaurants near us (it’s called Teton House and it’s in the old Menan Bank from the early 1900s!).

  • Rexburg, Idaho

Rexburg is another decent-sized city in Eastern Idaho, about 30 minutes from Idaho Falls. It’s population is roughly 40,000, and is home to BYU-I (Brigham Young University - Idaho).

I hope that helped give you a better idea of some of the main towns near Idaho Falls! As always, if you have any questions, I’m happy to help - feel free to send me a message!
