5 Things to Know About Summer in Nashville
Thinking about moving to Nashville (or middle Tennessee in general)? Southern summers can be a bit of a controversial topic, but don’t let that scare you off too easily! Here are 5 things to know about summer in Nashville - whether it’s a pro or a con to you, you decide!
1. Nashville Summer Weather
Like I said, people have a lot of opinions on the weather in Nashville (and Tennessee/the south as a whole), especially in the summer. And yes, summer in the south is pretty hot and humid. June, July, and August usually brings highs in the 80s to low 90s, and it is humid! But complete honesty - my husband and I moved to Nashville from the desert, and I would 100% prefer hot and humid over even hotter and dry! Yes, you’ll be sweaty and a little sticky, but as soon as you hit the shade it feels great (and it’s AMAZING for your skin and hair, so win win)!
2. Summer Storms in Tennessee
I love the summer storms we get around Nashville. During hurricane season (which is June through November), Tennessee gets a lot of the subsequent weather from the hurricanes on the coast, which means lots of rain and sometimes some crazy storms for us! Expect lots of moisture, thunder and lightning…and maybe a few fallen trees nearby during the especially crazy ones!
3. Bugs Around Nashville
Let’s face it, you’re in the south. There are bugs. It’s just something you’ll have to deal with and prepare for. During the summer, of course, the bugs are a little worse - but we’ve found with a good pest control company (let me know if you need a natural recommendation, we’ve got a great one!) and the right tricks, it’s really not that bad.
4. Firefly Season
Speaking of bugs, Nashville has lots of fireflies around in the summer! Fireflies are usually most active around May and June, and it’s so fun to go outside at night to see them all light up (especially if you have kids!).
5. Summer Events
During the summer you’ll find tons of outdoor and summer events going on around Nashville, including farmer’s markets (I’ve got a whole roundup of farmer’s markets around Nashville here!), food festivals, county fairs, pop up events from local businesses, outdoor concerts, and more.
Southern summers are honestly hard to beat, and this city definitely takes advantage! If you’re thinking about moving to Nashville, hopefully this gave you some insight into what to expect for summers here. As always, I’m always here to help - feel free to drop any questions you have here!
